If you're another person in YYC with a blog/business page/personal portfolio/etc, you may have recently noticed the amount of cross-tagging across Instagram within our community has risen almost exponentially over the year of 2016. I'm guessing that people didn't spontaneously start paying attention to me specifically, so it's really exciting that this is happening and that our creative community is getting better at helping each other succeed.
Admittedly, I've felt guilty about being so slow the past few months in giving back to all of those who've tagged me and wanted to get involved in what we're doing on the local scale. Those who followed me from early on know I fell out of doing my pics of the week regrams, and I've been wanting to find a cooler way to re launch that section for awhile now. Therefore, while I have a moment to breathe before my final review push at school, I'd like to announce my newest column Grams of the Week!
From now, every weekend you'll see me pick three of my favourite locally-sourced (sometimes local to Calgary, sometimes local to Canada, and sometimes even local to planet Earth) images by original content creators from the previous week. In the Instagram world I think it's super important to promote those who produce their own content, and my whole platform is already based largely on trying to expose the many unique individuals and groups in YYC, so this is a logical next step.
Synopsis: tag me in more of your photos! I am often extremely busy and don't get time to browse and appreciate most of the amazing content put out in our city each week unless I get more notifications than just the people I already know and am subscribed to.
This first extra special week happens to consist of three of my all time favourite YYC street style photographers, so enjoy!
1. @kingrosales photo of @gloriaaxo
This guy put out nine amazing photos in the past week that could constitute 3 weeks of this column by themselves. Since meeting him not long ago I've been consistently shocked that his Instagram doesn't already have like 10,000+ followers, so I'm pretty set on helping him reach the level of success that he so obviously deserves. Here's my single favourite photo from a week that could be all favourite photos:
You probably know him, and even if you don't you almost definitely love his work. What else can be said about his work that hasn't already? I personally describe it as "an Instagram-breaking minimalist perfection on modern street style" but say what you will, there's no lack of quality work coming from this guy. Check out the evidence here:
3. Outfit From Above by @streetgentlemen
Jeeves the man! Whether it's streetwear, formalwear, business skills, or just general positivity and good vibes, Sunjeev is the guy. He just released his e-book titled "Men's Style Mastery" (spoiler alert, it's awesome) and has been running regular style and confidence workshops that many can attest are fantastic. Not to mention that, surprise, he also takes awesome outfit photos, with the below pic being one of my favourite cold weather fits I've seen this past frigid week
